According to an article published last month in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, patients are choosing plastic surgeons based on online presence rather than their experience, expertise or ability.
We’ve seen this time and time again, and now this study confirms that social media is critical to practices.
The study found that the total number of a practice’s social media followers directly correlates with their placement on Google. The more social media followers, the more likely that a doctor or practice will be easily found through a Google search.
Furthermore, it was determined that patients tend to prioritize plastic surgeons who are easily found on Google rather than on the doctor’s academic pedigree.
“Having a strong social media following is what now drives patients into plastic surgeons’ offices,” the article states.
